Membership

We currently have a few vacancies , if you would like to join us please make contact, the situation can change very quickly. E mail Terry@salechamberorchestra.co.uk for further details.

Welcome to the Sale Chamber Orchestra. We are always delighted to receive new players and hope that you will be able to become one of our regular members.

We have a simple introductory procedure. The first time you attend, you will be introduced to our conductor, Richard Howarth and our leader, David Usher and he will organise somewhere to sit for that evening. After a week or two we will ask you to sit next to your section principal for one rehearsal for an informal audition. After that the membership secretary may offer you permanent membership.

We meet every Monday from 7:30 - 9:30 in Raglan Road Community Centre, Raglan Rd,. Sale. Please arrive early enough for a prompt start and if possible bring a music stand. There is a short break in the middle of each rehearsal where you can buy tea or coffee for £1.00. We expect permanent members to attend regularly, especially in the weeks before a concert. We usually give about six concerts a year, sometimes in Sale, but often outside the Manchester area.

The orchestra in entirely self financing. We ask you to pay an annual subscription of £75 (£45 for students, pensioners and the unwaged). This can be paid annually or by term.

If you are a violinist you may be given a seat in either the first or second violins to begin with. It is our policy to rotate members between the sections on a regular basis. We also change the seating positions in all the sections regularly to avoid the same people always being at the back.

Lastly, would you please give the membership secretary your name, address and telephone number at the first rehearsal you attend.
